Tribal Curriculum

In 2017, Oregon Legislature enacted Senate Bill 13 which directs Oregon Department of Education (ODE), in partnership with Oregon's nine federally recognized tribes, to create Native American K-12 curriculum for Oregon public Schools. Looking towards the future of Tribal History/ Shared History through the Office of Indian Education we are currently working with each of the nine federally recognized Tribes of Oregon to collaborate a Tribal based Curriculum specific to each individual Tribe. Klamath Curriculum

Curriculum Material:

​Social Studies, Termination and Restoration

This is a two-part lesson. First, it focuses on the Termination of the Klamath Tribes by the federal government in the 1980s. The lesson reviews both the short- and long- term impacts of termination and restoration on the individual tribal members and the Tribe as a political entity. The lesson uses simulations to assist students in building an understanding of what tribal members experienced during this time in history.

Klamath Tribes and the Boarding School Experience​

This lesson focuses on the Indian Boarding school Experience of Native children. The lesson talks about the history of the boarding school system at both the national and state level. The lesson also specifically addresses the oral stories and experiences of Klamath Tribal members who attended the shools. The lesson focuses on building an understanding of the historical concepts related to the boarding schools and acknowledging through empathy what students may have experienced through this process of forced assimilation.

Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Curriculum

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians is pleased to offer to educators of Douglas County and beyond our professionally developed, historically and culturally vetted placed-based curriculum. These materials were developed as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 13 in 2017. This funded mandate requires all schools to incorporate factually accurate and culturally sensitive materials.
